A Clinical Study for the Evaluation of Efficacy and Safety of IV Ginkgo Biloba Extract(Tanamin®) in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke

Abstract

|
We performed an non-comparative clinical study prospectively to evaluation the efficacy and safety of IV Ginkgo Biloba Extract(Tanamin®)in treatment of patients with acute ischemic stroke. Thirty one patients with neurologic signs were enrolled in this trial. All patients took 17.5mg Ginkgo Biloba Extract(Tanamin®) twice daily via intravenous routes. The evaluating measures included MMSE-K, NIH stroke scale, modified Rankin scale, Bathel index and clinial or laboratory adverse reactions. The efficacy of Ginkgo Biloba Extract(Tanamin®) was evident in NIH stroke scale and modified Rankin scale statistically. Adverse reactions were observed in 7 patients; burning sensation of lower extremities(1), pruritus(1) and transient increment of transaminase activities(5). But those were mild and clinically not significant. The present study shows that Ginkgo Biloba Extract(Tanamin®) is an effective and safe drug in treating the patients with acute ischemic stroke.
